Here are my computer's specs:
3.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
2GB or RAM
Vista (nothing is ever perfect in life)
Gateway GM5474
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 [Display adapter]
Now here's the question: If I wanted to speed up my computer, what should I upgrade to gain the highest potential of speed, a new video card, or a new processor.
I'm thinking it would be the video card, but I'm not sure. If it is, or if it is the processor, could you please also recommend a affordable upgrade?
Thanks In Advance; 10 Points as an after effect =)|||I think your processor is already good enough. If you want to see
really good speeds, add more ram because
Vista works - So so on 1GB Ram
Good on 2 GB Ram
Blazing fast on 4 GB Ram
Also dont forget to disable "Superfetch" on vista. It will make your computer much much faster ,trust me.
To modify whether Superfetch is enabled or disabled, you can perform the following steps:
1. Click the Start orb and type REGEDIT in the Start Search area.
2. Open the Registry Editor.
3. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then SYSTEM
then CurrentControlSet
then Control
then Session Manager
then MemoryManagement
then click PrefetchParameters
4. On the right side, double-click on EnableSuperfetch
5. Give it one of the following values:
0 to disable Superfetch
1 to enable prefetching when program is launched
2 to enable boot prefetching
3 to enable prefectching of everything
(My advice= set 3)
Click OK.
6. Close the Registry Editor.
Don't forget to make a backup of registry, just in case.|||Upgrade the RAM.|||your computer seems perfectly capable of handling vista. but as u said, nothings perfect so ur computer may run slowly on vissta. ur processor is more than suffcient to handle vista so i'd say change ur video card. the best priced video card would be the nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS..it may have different manufacters but they're all basically the same as long as its that model
however, i'd say that the best solution would be to switch to windows xp...with xp, everythiing will work extra sspeedy and you won't have to modify the insides of the computer
