I am just about to purchase a new video card. I know I have a PCI Express x16. What other things should I considering when looking for a new video card? Can I buy PCI Express 2.0? I am also looking for a good gaming card. I have a GEFORCE 8600 right now.
Thank you.|||PCI express 2.0 is backward compatible so you can get it. Without knowing your budget it is hard to make a recommendation, but for a gamer, I would probably get a 9800GT, or if you can afford it, a GTX 260.|||One thing to consider is if the video card will fit inside your PC. Most newer cards are HUGE. Also, make sure your power supply supports the 6-pin connector and at least 500 watts to be safe.
But for the price as well as performance, I'd get a 9800GTX. It's priced under $200 and is good enough to run Crysis and other high demanding games.
You can get a PCI express 2.0 because it will downclock itself to run on PCI Express x16. It worked for me.
