My new video card causes my computer to freeze?

I just installed my new 256mb HD video card into my desktop. Problem is that whenever I set the my resolution to it's highest settings, the computer runs really REALLY slow and when I try watching video's the computer completely freezes. what gives? Don't try to run resolutions your video card cant handle.|||how much ram do you have?? It sounds like it is takeing all your ram and it does not have enough to run.
