I tried installing a new video card (a Galaxy Geforce9600gt) into my Dell E310 desktop. I properly connected the monitor to the back of the video card. I have fulfilled all of the requirements for the video card so I don't understand why it won't work. When I go to start up my computer, I get the Windows XP loading screen and then it just goes blank. I can hear the fan running for the video card in the tower so I know it is connected properly. One thing that could be an issue is the fact that my motherboard has only two PCI connectors and one PCI express x1 connector, so I bought a PCI express x1-x16 adapter from Star Tech so I could use the new x16 video card in the x1slot. But it connected okay and I heard the card running soooo...
The only thing I could think to be a problem is the fact that I haven't disabled the integrated Intel chipset (my current video card). Should I do that? And how? Can you tell me what my problem is?? Is there any way I could install the drivers for the new video card with my blank monitor screen (like through Safe Mode by pressing F8)? Thank You!|||You don't need the drivers to boot the machine properly. The OS will default to standard VGA at 640 X480.
So ... it sounds like a matter of disabling the old onboard video card and enabling the PCI slot. You want to set the order to read the PCI slot first even if it reads both cards. You do this in the bios setup, and you'll need to plug the monitor back into the old card to do this and then shut off the machine, then restart with the monitor plugged into the new card.
Some motherboards can't disable the onboard video, and some boards won't support certain video cards especially if it's using an adapter like yours. However, the 9600 is a mid range card and you should be able to get it to work.
My son bought an NVidia 8800 and his motherboard didn't support it period. He had to buy a new motherboard even though the motherboard had a PCIe slot and he had a 650 watt PSU.|||* Power device type Power supply
* Voltage Required AC 120/230 V
* Power provided 230.0 Watt
9600 gt requires a 400 watt mininum with a 6 pin connector powering it from your psu, are you still using your stock psu or did u buy a new one?|||You should undo your installation, reboot, install the drivers without the hardware, then install the hardware, disable the on-board graphics, enable the new graphics, and reboot.
