I'm not sure what exactly I need to have in order to buy and install a new video card. I had a laptop a few years back and tried to get a new video card and they said It wasn't possible.. Heres my info

Thank you!|||The only info we really need is what motherboard you have, what wattage power supply you have, what you need the card to do and the amount you want to spend. You shouldn't have added the comment about the laptop you had, some people are easily confused and might think your question is regarding a laptop.

Download cpu-z and click on the mainboard tab, it'll tell you the make and model of you motherboard.

To find out what wattage your power supply is, remove the side panel and read the label on the power supply.|||Laptops generally aren't upgradable in any sense except RAM or HDD or any USB device and with older ones PCM/CIA slots. Desktops can be upgraded because they're made of different parts stuck together and have slots for everything. Laptops though are basically just one big board permanently soldered together with all the important parts it will ever come with.
