New video card over integrated graphics question?

I have a MSI 760GM-E51 motherboard and it has onboard graphics. I purchased a EVGA GeForce 9800GT and I don't know if I need to disable the onboard graphics before installing the new card. My gut tells me to install it, connect the monitor to the new card and it should detect it and automatically disable the onboard graphics. Can someone help confirm the steps for me please? Many Thanks!|||You don't need to disable onboard graphics. I'm actually not sure whether it disables it or not though.|||Glee fan makes a good point.

According to the specs for your motherboards BIOS, you need not disable the on board graphics.

When the BIOS goes through the POST process. It will detect the PCIe card and enable the use of the new graphics card. Though I also would recommend that you make sure you have at least a 600W power supply. Some people will tell you that you can run fine on a 400W. That may be, but only with an 80 certified power supply.

Check out the specs for your video card and even though they recommend an 400W power supply, I'd still go with a 600W one.

Check your spces here:

Personally, all the gaming PCs I have built have a 600W power supply, minimum. My personal rig has an 1200W power supply.

Good luck and safe computing and gaming!

★★★★|||yes, you just plug in the card and it will detect it, you don't disable onboard graphics otherwise if the graphics card broke you would have no display.

you ought to check you have a decent psu to handle the card if you didnt already do so|||Yes, you need to disable the integrated card in the BIOS. Your manual should tell you how to do that better than anyone here can. I know it may sound like I'm trying to blow you off, but I'm not. Motherboard manuals are a godsend.
